Drones are a way to combat ISIS

While the United States, Russia, and other countries want to use more modern aircraft, Ukraine does not have the same resources to train its soldiers on these aircraft. The Ukrainians can get training on planes and vehicles in Western countries, but not the same on drones here. Because Ukrainians have grown up using older equipment, such as trucks, drones are easier for them. Drones don't require pilots, making them easier for soldiers to use. Drones have a similar interface to video games, making them easy to use.

Aerorozvidka

Ukrainian military uses an unusual approach to fighting ISIS in east Ukraine. Octocopters are equipped with thermal cameras and can be used for night-time missions. Some drones have anti-tank weapons, and can light up columns. These drones are highly maneuverable, and can carry as much 11 lbs payload. The drones' small size means they can fly low over targets and drop munitions.

Aerorozvidka started out as an IT enthusiast organization. Today, Aerorozvidka is a military-grade air reconnaissance unit. Aerorozvidka started out as a civilian drone business. Over time, however, it has evolved to a full-fledged unit that is headed by its own leader. Because of export controls, the Ukrainian government barred Russian military aircraft from entering the country. Aerorozvidka relies upon crowdfunding and donations to maintain its existence since many of its components are manufactured in the US.

Switchblade

The U.S. military has supplied Ukraine with armed "Switchblade," drones capable of striking Russian tanks from faraway. These unmanned aircraft vehicles were created by the US Air Force in response a Ukrainian request. According to a Pentagon spokesperson, John Kirby, more than 121 of these machines are being dispatched to Ukraine. It is unclear how the Switchblades will work in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

The Switchblade, a small drone, can be easily launched from a tube. It also has a range up to 40 kilometers. The Switchblade is able to hit a Russian convoy 6 miles away, which is unlike Bayraktar drones. These small aircraft can easily be assembled in minutes for a conflict such as Ukraine. The Switchblade is capable of flying much faster than the Bayraktar, which is the current U.S. ally.

Russian kamikaze drones

The US has recently announced a $800million military aid package for Ukraine. The delivery of 121 unmanned aircraft called "Phoenix Ghosts", which is intended to terrorize Russian forces, is part of the package. These unmanned aircraft can fly for 30 to 40 minutes over large areas and are equipped with cameras and warheads. The Switchblade is a hovering munition weighing 5.5 pounds that can destroy tanks and armored vehicles.

These lightweight, small aircrafts can be operated from land, sea, and air thanks to their powerful, low-flying, gimbal. In an aerial conflict like this, every advantage an opponent holds over the other side is important. Russian kamikaze-equipped drones are a direct threat. This capability will prove to be critical for Ukraine's defense, since it can break Russian sieges as well as attack command-and-control centers. Although such capabilities could be a liability for both sides it could make a significant difference in the battlefield and help Ukraine emerge victorious.

U.S. loitering drones

Russia began integrating ZALA KYB lotering munitions into its military arsenal. These drones are able to use lethal loitering munitions in the manner of bazookas. This could lead to the proliferation these autonomous killing machines on black markets. This is something observers and pundits are concerned about. So what can the U.S. do to stop this from happening?

Kirby reports that the U.S. government dispatched more then 121 Switchblade loitering drones to Ukraine to support Kiev's fight against Russian forces. The Switchblade drone measures 5.5lbs and can hover above an area for anywhere from thirty to forty minute. It includes a camera, a warhead and a microphone. Its purpose is to destroy the opposition forces in Ukraine.
